Food safety is a process that preserves food safe for a long time and keeps your food worth-eating. Food safety keeps you away from harmful bacteria, parasites, and other chemicals. Make sure that the food you are going to eat is contaminated or not.

Safe Food Handling Practices and Procedures:

Below are some useful safe food handling practices and procedures that are indeed required for keeping food safe and eatable.

Use soap and water while washing hands:

According to food safety guidelines, the first priority is to wash hands with soap before cooking or eating. If you do not do so the germs of your hand merge into the food and contaminate it. Always try to use warm water to wash your hands. Rub your hands for 30 seconds using soap or other cleaning liquids. Dry your hands with a clean towel. Keep this habit in daily routine.

Don’t keep food in the refrigerator for a long time:

Everyone knows that food should not be kept for a long time yet they do so. As per the food safety guidelines, clean your refrigerator once in a week and throw away the foods which are not worth eating. The remaining food must be removed from the refrigerator after 3 or 4 days so that its bacteria cannot affect other foods and vegetables.

Keep utensils clean:

Before eating or cooking keep your utensils clean. Whenever you cook something, wash your pan or cooker. If they are washed then clean them with a dry cloth.

Wash fruits and vegetables properly:

Always keep a habit of washing fruits & vegetables before eating. After cutting fruits and vegetables, wash them under the running water. Rinse the fruits well so that the bacteria can’t penetrate. The bacteria inside fruits and vegetables can cause many illnesses.

Buy fresh fruits and vegetables:

Food safety guidelines involve buying fresh fruits and vegetables. Whenever you go outside to buy vegetables, please buy fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid buying fruits and vegetable which are unused for a long time. The leftover vegetables are full of poisonous bacteria which can create many health issues in your body.

Don’t use food irrigated with dirty water sources:

Always avoid buying food items that are irrigated by contaminated water sources. You can find many crops are irrigated by polluted rivers. Many chemical companies dump many types of a chemical into the river and pollute it and this water is used for cultivation. After all, you eat such a portion of food and invite different types of diseases. Always use vegetables grown in organic farms.

Some Extra Tips for Safety and Sanitation in the Kitchen:

  • Do not allow anyone with an infectious illness in the kitchen.
  • Do not allow anybody to touch any appliances in the kitchen.
  • Avoid smoking while preparing food. Always use hand gloves while cooking and serving.
  • Pets must not be allowed during the process of cooking in the kitchen.
  • Before using utensils, food-related equipment, rinse and sanitize them all.
  • Keep an area insects-free where the food preparation is mostly done.
  • Keep the drinking and cooking water separate. Always keep the food items separate to one another when serving.
  • Keep your food far away from dust, microbes, fleas and other sewage sources from outside and inside.
  • Have a habit of cleaning the kitchen just after cooking. Try to avoid washing utensils in the kitchen area. It would be better washing in an open space.
