Rules of Kanjam: Be the Best Deflector

There are many outdoor games from several decades; it is the best thing to do in your leisure time- can be played alone or with family and friends. Many outdoor games are played all over the world. Each has its own rules and regulations and thrill. But there is one game that draws our attention is “Kanjam” Before we talk about the Kanjam rules, we would like to say a few words about this game.

Charles Sciandra and Paul Swisher are pioneers of this game. The original name of this game was “Garbage Can Frisbee” There is a story behind the origin of this game. An idea of this game emerged when four friends were playing with a disc and throwing it into a garbage can. It is both fun and challenging game. It is a game in which the player throws a disc in a black trash can.


Kanjam is a flying disc game. The player is supposed to deflect a disc into the can. It is the best game to play with your friends or with your families. You can play this game either in your backyard or on open ground. You will not find any difficulty to set up. It is an easy game to play. People of all age group can play this game easily and can enjoy a lot. The challenges and fun are the souls of this game. Now, let’s take a glance at the kit needed for this game.

What is needed to play this game?

To play this game, you are supposed to have 2 portable official goals and flying disc including information about how to play. Always buy a kit which is durable in terms of quality material.

KanJam tournaments:

World championship and the Classic are the two official Kanjam tournaments. Klassic is played every year. It has been first played since 2004 and the world championship is successfully running from 1990. The world championship has a tremendous location from the beginning. It is located in North Tonawanda in New York City. The team name Dorkus Survivors who won three titles in championships and same in Classics and last is Sole Survivors who have the same title as Rebel and one sort that is two Klassic title. The recent championship was won by Stallion Survivors.

Take a look at below the basic Kanjam Rules:

  • Minimum 4 and maximum of 8 players are allowed to play this game.
  • You can invite 2 people to each game
  • Each team is allowed to change their players at any time.
  • There are 2-3 matches per night.
  • The score is made by throwing and deflecting the flying disc.
  • As per the rules, the team who scores 21 points at the end of the game are declared a winner.
  • But the team who scores more than 21 points will be slipped to 17 points.

According to KanJam, Rock paper scissors will decide which team starts first. The team who start first can switch out its players after the first game. This game is played into two halves. Each is given equal turns. If one team is winning constantly. In this event, this rule is not applied. Two players from both teams are allowed to stand at opposing ends. One player is supposed to throw the disk, while another player is supposed to deflect. As per the KanJam, the deflector cannot use both hands while redirecting the flying disc. He can only use one hand. The deflector is not allowed to catch or double hit the ball. If he does will be eliminated.


Scoring system:

No points are given in case of throwing the ball over the line or your disc touches the ground before reaching the goal.

1 (Dinger) point is awarded to the partner of your team for deflecting a disc into the side of the ken.

2 (Deuce) points are given when a disc hit the side of the Kan without any support from the deflector.

3 (Bucket) points are awarded in case of the flying disc is deflected into the front slot.

Chog- for the instant win- When a player from your team throws the disc in the middle of the Kan without any help from the deflector.

What will happen in the event of a tie?

Both teams are given one more turn. The team who scores the highest point will become a winner.
