Part II of this case study on how Intel approaches innovation starts in the mid-2000's when Tri-gate was chosen as an early option for 22nm. Manufacturing them in volume years ahead of everyone else was a real technical achievement. We examine the myriad of engineering obstacles that had to be overcome before Ivy Bridge could be shipped in volume. This includes patterning the fins, reliability, and yield. We discuss the benefits of the technology and the transition to SoC and analog. My guest, Mark T. Bohr is Sr. Fellow and Director of Process Architecture & Integration at Intel.
