Part I: Silicon Catalyst is a new type of incubator that hopes to address the innovation roadblock in the way of semiconductor start-ups. With the current business model, design has become too expensive for venture funded start-ups and classical incubators don’t address their needs. Moreover time is lost trying to find investors who have become skeptical about semiconductor start-ups. In part I, Mike Noonen lays out these problems. In part II, Dan Armbrust discusses the solution and its mechanics.

Part II: Silicon Catalyst's new business model is to vet semiconductor start-ups through a coalition of leading companies and experienced mentors.  Then provide everything a start-up needs (EDA tools, MPW prototypes, test equipment) so they can quickly get to designing and building a strong team.  The idea is to make them more "fund-worthy" by reducing their technical and market risks through the support and partnerships. In part I, Mike Noonen lays out these problems. In part II, Dan Armbrust discusses the solution and its mechanics.
