Summary: It's a New Year with slick roads hidden by a deep fog of forecasting uncertainty conjured up by a hyper-volatile stock market, rising interest rates, trade wars, a frozen U.S. government, and Trump Tweets. The question is, what’s instore for semiconductors in 2019. 2018 was good, but growth steadily decreased as memory prices fell. Tariffs hit the auto IC market hard. Meanwhile there was Apple’s surprise warning. So, Andrea Lati and Dan Hutcheson are back to discuss how current issues are likely to affect the semiconductor market in 2019. We examine issues such as tariffs, the affect China’s investment in semiconductors are likely to have, how the structure of the DRAM and NAND markets are shifting from a cost to value.
