Summary: Collaboration in business is a word that can have two meanings. For some a code word for 'lower your prices.' But in the semiconductor industry, the word has returned back to its roots of working together to accomplish a common goal as a way to address the increasingly high cost of innovation. They have proven that customers and suppliers, as well as competitors, can use collaboration as way to create breakthrough technologies for lower cost while achieving shorter time-to-market.

My guest, Mike Kirk, EVP of Wafer Inspection Group and Worldwide Manufacturing at KLA-Tencor, was here to talk about how they do it. In the video, we cover how and why the nature of collaboration has changed. What it really means to how they bring new technologies to market as well as the difficult nature of managing IP in these relationships. We go through the development process over the 5 to 6 years that's needed to take a product from early concept to shipping in volume as well as how it affects multiple tiers of the supply chain.
