Description: The application of renewable energy sources (i.e. solar wind energy) into an electric grid requires high-performance energy storage devices along with various types of power electronics (i.e. rectifiers, converters, and inverters). Figure 1 includes the schematic of a hybrid energy storage system in which a renewable energy source (here photovoltaic modules) along with an energy storage device has been implemented to the electric grid via the utilization the multilevel inverters.
