Innovating out of the Solar Winter with technology ... with Jim Mullin, Applied Materials

  9568      Sep 19, 2012
It's been a rough time for Solar PV cell manufacturers due to a glut of excess capacity and a massive production ramp in China. But Solar Winter means Springtime for consumers, who are enjoying an amazing cost-per-watt reduction -  one which they will be reluctant to give back. Meanwhile, Solar has its own version of Moore's Law in which cost-per-watt goes steadily down. Solar manufacturers have two choices: lower costs or raise watts-out. My guest, Jim Mullin, Vice President and General Manager of Applied Materials Varian, has answers to help manufacturers do the latter: raise cell efficiency and yield. In this video, we find out how and why these answers are helping bring solar manufacturers back to profitability with the help of Applied Materials.
