Traditionally, men always kept skin care matters simple. Recently, however, this has been changing as more and more men are seeking younger and healthier looking skin. Now more than ever is the ideal time for you to re-examine your skin care routine. Whether your skin is as smooth as satin or as rough as sandpaper is all up to the genetic lottery. But where you may have lost in genetics, you can make up for in your daily skin care regimen. Regardless of how your skin feels or looks on even your roughest days, it can always be restored by following the correct care treatments. This men's skin care guide presents simple skin care tips that will keep you looking and feeling youthful now and into the years ahead.

1. Consider Different Men’s Skin Care Brands and Their Ingredients

Go for products that blend well with your skin type. For example, if you have an acne-prone skin type, opt for non-comedogenic or oil free moisturizers and cleansers. On the other hand, if you have sensitive skin, look for mild fragrance-free skin care products, as those containing fragrances and other additives may leave your skin dry and irritated. Also be cautious of skin care products that are labeled “unscented” as most of them contain concealing fragrances that can easily irritate your body’s largest organ.

2. Wear sunscreen when outdoors

Apply sunscreen to all the areas of your skin that are exposed including lips, neck, and ears. This will help ward off sun rays that can lead to age spots, wrinkles, and skin cancer. For the best results go for a water resistant, broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply after every 2 hrs. Alternatively, you can also shield your skin from sun damage by wearing protective clothing such as wide-brimmed hats or sunglasses that have UV protection features.

3. Cleanse Your Skin

This is one of the most important tips for face skin care for men at home. Your skin usually gets oily in some areas and excess oil can easily block skin pores, hence preventing your shaver from moving along the skin quickly and smoothly. So before you use that razor wash your face thoroughly with facial soap and water to get rid of any blockages. Also, make sure that you use a reliable facial cleanser. Harsh soaps and scrubs will only help to damage your skin while a gentle facial soap that hydrates your skin will do an amazing for your skin, self-confidence and complexion.

4. Moisturize daily

A good moisturizer will make your skin look younger and brighter by significantly minimizing the appearance of fine lines. For better and faster results, always apply the moisturizer immediately after shaving or showering when your skin is still damp.

5. Stay Hydrated

Any dermatologist will tell you that your skin needs a lot of moisture and lotion alone cannot cater to that. So drink lots of water, about 6 to 8 glasses per day is the recommended serving. Also, minimize the amount of caffeine and alcohol you intake as these two can easily make you dehydrated.

6. Exfoliate

It is also very crucial for you to get rid of dead skin cells through scrubbing. You can visit a salon once or twice a week for exfoliation or you can opt for deep exfoliation twice or thrice a week. Remember glowing skin can only be achieved if you get rid of the dead cells and nourish the younger ones.

7. Watch your shaving

Just like there are some men that like multi-blade razors there are also some that like single blade razors. If you usually experience ingrown hairs, razor bumps or razor burns, use a double or a single blade shaver and do not stretch the skin while shaving. Use good shaving cream and try to shave in the direction of hair growth. Wash after every swipe and change the blade after every 5 shaves so as to counter-irritation.

As a twenty-first century man, it is very important for you to take care of your body’s largest organ. Your skin is like a billboard that announces your vitality, health, and age, so it is crucial that you take some time to tend to it so that you display the finest version of yourself. Choosing harsh skin care products that eliminate your skin’s natural oils or block your pores will only further infuriate any existing skin problems. Remember your skin absorbs what you put on it, so choose your men's skincare routine wisely!
