Solar power is growing rapidly in popularity with more and more information out there than ever before. With this mass of information, it should come as no surprise that this competitive renewable source of energy has caused many rumors and misconceptions to circulate which have confused the facts.

Today, in the Australian solar energy industry, there are several common misconceptions regarding various aspects of this type of renewable energy. It’s important to take some time to do your own research and look into the real facts before making your mind up, one way or the other. The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ should be taken into account when making up your own mind. Double-check your facts, skip the sensationalism and ensure that you have a true image of solar power, its benefits and its role in protecting the future of our planet.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common misconceptions about solar power and debunk them once and for all.

The Price Of Solar Energy Installation Is Sky High

To benefit from the electricity generated through solar energy, it is necessary to install solar panels on your roof or on land to capture the sun’s rays, which are then turned into energy to power homes and workplaces. This installation process is commonly viewed as an expensive factor in harnessing energy, however, this is simply not true.

In the past installation of panels may have been an expense that many people could not afford. However, nowadays, with the growing use of solar energy as an alternative to other energy resources, prices have fallen greatly and it is now a much more affordable asset for the average consumer. In addition, governments now offer tax rebates and other financial incentives for homeowners and offices who are able to install solar panels and use this renewable source of energy instead of relying on fossil fuels.

It Takes Too Long To See A Return On The Investment

Many people have been taught to understand that once solar panels are installed on a property it is likely to take up to 25 years to start seeing the economic benefits. This is simply untrue. In most cases the payback period lasts less than 10 years and can be seen in as little as 4 years or less, depending entirely on the initial investment, the size of the installation, any financial incentives offered and the imminent energy savings from no longer depending solely on grid energy.

You Can’t Use Solar Energy In Cold Weather

Another of the widespread misunderstandings regarding solar energy is that solar power can only be harnessed in warm, sunny climates. Solar panels receive the sun’s light, that is then transformed into energy, in both warm and cold temperatures. Even in cloudy areas sunlight is reflected, which means there is no reason it cannot be just as effective, if not more so in some cases, all over the world, no matter the temperature.

Solar Panels Require Too Much Maintenance

In this instance, it is really the opposite which is true. Solar panels should be cleaned about once a year and can be done very easily. The panel installation has no moving parts, therefore, there is no need for regular maintenance. Many solar panels actually outlive their long guarantee periods.

Don’t Believe the False Claims Against Solar Energy

There are still those who believe that solar panels cause roof damage when in fact, roofs are protected by the installation and usually better preserved from the elements. Additionally many argue that solar energy allows for both noise and light pollution when installations do not have moving parts to make sound and clients can now choose color schemes for cells and frames to remain in-keeping with their homes or gardens.

Solar power is experiencing a huge boom in Australia as more and more people are realizing the benefits of this clean, renewable source of energy. As with anything that becomes a success, there will always be those who want to knock it. Don’t take our word for it, check the facts yourself and you’ll quickly see that these misconceptions of solar power are unfounded, untrue and the advantages of this growing energy source really are undeniable.
