How to Grow Your Music Channel on YouTube

  Jan 08, 2018

Over the past few years, I’ve spent most of my time building YouTube channels for various musicians and artists online.I don’t claim myself to be a YouTube expert, but I have a pretty clear idea how you can get 1000+ subscribers for your channel in just one month.

In this article, I’ll tell you simple yet effective ways to grow your music channel on YouTube in no time. If you are a novice YouTuber struggling to build you're first ever music channel, then you must read the following article.

1:-Cause Behind Your Channel.

Before going any further, ask yourself why are you doing this? What’s the reason? There are multitudes of other music channels that pop up every day on YouTube and disappear into thin air without anyone noticing. You obviously don’t want to be one of them!

You are doing this because you just want to put your personality out there and let the people know what kind of a person you are. Or maybe because you want to connect with your fan base? Or you just want to make lots of money with YouTube Partner Program?

Whatever it is, you need to be clear about the motivation behind your channel. If you’re clear about the cause then you’ve taken the first step in the right direction.

2:-Identifying Your Exact Target Audience.

Identifying who your music is going to reach is one of the most important elements for growing your channel. For audience growth and development you must know what type of music do they like to listen? Who does your message resonate with?Whether they love to listen classical or pop or hip-hop, you need to know their likings exactly.

Usually, newcomers have no clue about their demographics hence fail to grow their channel. You simply can’t sing classical songs to a hip-hop audience. Generality doesn’t work here, so be specific about your target audience.

3:-Timing is Everything.

It is all about timing your videos right. Whether you are doing covers or original, you need to upload your videos at right time.

So what is the right time to create and upload videos?Well! You need to piggyback on popular events like Independence Day, Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day etc. You need to wait for such events and release your videos on such events. If it is 4th of July then create something patriotic that can relate to your audience.

Similarly, during Christmas season people would love listening new Christmas songs and carols. You need to choose a song that will resonate with your audience. Piggybacking on popular events is also known as Tent Pole marketing. Tent Pole marketing is a great way for newcomers to grow their audience instantly on YouTube.

You don’t have to be a marketing wizard to learn Tent Pole marketing. Once you’ve become an established YouTuber you can create your own Tent Pole event.

4:-Collaboration with other Artists.

Collaborations with other artists can really help your channel to be seen by a whole new audience. You need to search for other artists who are just like you and their style resonates with your own. Partner up with them and cross-promote videos with each other. Advertise your collaboration in your videos, playlists, description links, and cards to share audiences from each other’s channels.

If you check your Subscriber Report on YouTube’s dashboard then you will notice a sudden spike in your subscriber’s base. I simply can’t overemphasize the importance of Collaborations.

5:-Building a Close-Knit Community.

You don’t have to be some marketing genius to get it right. Just build a close knit community where people can feel a sense of belonging. Try to intertwine with your personal life. Take a genuine interest in your audience whom you are trying to serve; human to human touch is important for building a community.

Hence, you need to go beyond Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email marketing and other forms of traditional marketing.Keeping your fan base intact should be your first priority. Build connections and have them promote your videos.

6:-Content – Quality and Quantity Both.

You might be thinking what’s the need to read this paragraph? But I want to give you some nuggets here. You have to give your audience a lot more than just music videos.

No doubt your songs have to be of top-notch quality but on top of that you also need to give a glimpse of your personal life like who you are, where you live, what food do you eat, things you do on weekends etc. The whole essence of creating quality content is simplicity. Be natural, you shouldn’t appear rehearsed in your videos.

7:-Art of Creating Viral Content.

It is quite impossible to teach you the art of creating viral content in just one paragraph. In this paragraph, I would like to emphasize the importance of creating viral content on regular basis. Viral content can help you in getting thousands of subscribers instantly. You don’t have to wait long to get noticed.

Here are some pointers for creating viral content.

  • Be Funny
  • Scary or Prank Videos are great
  • Shoot a stunt video
  • Reaction video
  • Relate your video to pop culture phenomenon

8:-Beating Your Competition with SEO.

An artist doesn’t have to get into technical mumbo-jumbo. However, he or she must be able to learn basic SEO in order to beat their competition. Jot down the list of all the keywords in your niche that your audience would like to search or type in the YouTube search box.

You should try to include all such keywords in the Title and Description of your every video. By implementing basic SEO techniques you can bring in a lot of new traffic to your channel. Keep it simple.

9:-Consistency, Consistency, and Consistency.

Being consistent is the key to success. You need to come out with a schedule and stick with it. People who follow you learn when you typically upload new videos. Hence they expect those videos to go up on the same day at same time. Whether you’re uploading videos daily or weekly, you need to be consistent in your efforts. In the long run, consistency will help you convert visitors into subscribers.

However, if you upload your videos on and off basis then people will grossly fail to relate to your channel.

Finally, I will conclude this article by saying your channel needs to be cohesive. From channel art to avatar picture to thumbnails, everything should look good. If follow above mentioned tips then you can easily grow your music channel on YouTube exponentially.
