Some people seem to become successful much faster than other people. Others seem to get stuck, not becoming successful at all. Although this can be frustrating, you should know that success in work and life aren’t a random game of chance. Of course, they aren’t an exact science either. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do to tip the scales in your favor though.


While you may not think of yourself as creative, this is a skill that you can develop. Just look around and try thinking “outside the box.” This doesn’t mean you’ll think of a great business idea, but you can strategize in ways that may put you ahead of your competition. If you do this several times, you’re bound to eventually come up with a great idea. You can use this strategy to come up with new product ideas, marketing campaigns, or better management strategies simply by combining multiple ideas, items, or strategies that you see when you look around you. Of course, you need to give yourself permission to make mistakes occasionally as you do this.

Public speaking is an activity that frightens a lot of people, but it can also really enhance your success. When you first get started though you should expect it to be hard to get on stage. They were probably nervous back then, but they managed to overcome their fear and so can you.

In reality, anyone can give a 10-minute or longer public speech. It’s all a matter of changing how you think about doing this. Start by thinking about one subject that you know a lot about – your field of study, a great book, a new video game, or your favorite television show are all great examples here. These are probably all things you could talk to someone about for quite a bit of time, the only difference here is that you’re talking to a group of people instead of just one person.

Public speaking isn’t only important, it’s also a great way to build your brand’s authority and increase your income too. As such, it’s something you’ll want to take advantage of. Clearly, this consists of three essential steps. It all starts with making a commitment that fear won’t hold you back – taking steps towards overcoming this fear. Once you’ve done so you can start educating yourself on various topics so you can talk about them for a while. Then it’s simply a matter of practicing and improving. Taking the time to do these things will help you gain more experience. With more experience comes more comfort regarding giving a speech. Who knows, you may eventually become a highly sought-after speaker in the field of your choice. This could equate to a great income and the freedom to lead a more flexible lifestyle too.

Such speakers share their experience on what aspects one should look for in order to achieve the goals in life. Networking also plays a crucial role here – one you can’t overlook. At the heart of networking is relationship building which is the ability to make other people feel important, special, and well-liked. These are all the things that a great listener can really help with too.

There are some people who find it easy to connect with different types of people. This is because they try to give others the opportunity to talk about whatever they enjoy the most. Of course, to make this work you need to find that interest. To do this you’ll need ask questions until you find what they enjoy talking about. Once you hit upon that topic it’s time for you to listen, ask more questions about the topic of their choice and offer your own input when appropriate. This is a great way to build new relationships even when you’re just meeting someone for the first time. Some things you can ask people about when you’re trying to find a topic that everyone enjoys talking about include:

  • Work

  • School

  • Hobbies

  • Entertainment

  • Goals

  • Family

You’ll still find an occasional person who will argue that they’re lucky to have gotten to where they’re at today. However, you’re likely to find just as many people who don’t like to leave things to luck or chance. These people want to go out there and create their own luck today. If you’re one of these types of people, you’ll want to use these three skills to your advantage since they can really help you be successful. Of course, you can’t expect to learn all these skills overnight. Instead, you must choose which of these abilities you think is the most important for you and start learning them each – one at a time. By investing just a little time and effort throughout the week you can develop some great skills that will help you move forward and be successful. Start with the skill you feel you need to work on the most. By starting in an area where you’re the weakest, the rest will easily follow. Regardless of which skill you choose to start with though, remember you need to start somewhere.
