A game that will be a contact sport played by the two teams of five players’ roller skating counter-clockwise around a track then that respective game will be known as roller derby game. In order to play this game, follow roller derby rules that are mentioned below:

Roller Derby Rules

Roller Derby Rules

1. The team shall consist of up to 14 players but during the game, only 5 players should be on the track at one time. These shall consist of:

a) 1 jammer: The jammer is the only member of the team who is responsible for scoring.

b) 4 blockers: There are specific defensive positions which are meant to block the opposition of jammer lapping them and from scoring also. From 4 blockers there is a pivot and it will be known as a captain for calling the shots.

2. Matches for roller derby are played with two halves of 30 minutes each.

3. There will be an oval shape place on the surface of the ground where the game will be played. During the game, the blockers from each team will be opposing each other as one single pack around the track.

4. As soon as the pack passes from the starting line and the previous member is 30 feet from that place then a whistle will be blown and then the two jammers (a single jammer from each team) will begin to skate.

5. Then the jammers are supposed to skate as fast as they can and will fight in their own way through the pack. Once that has been done then the jammers shall be in a stable position in order to score.

6. A jammer then can score by racing around the track of Roller Derby and lapping (overtaking) members or players of the opposite team in order to score.

7. Blockers of each team should use physical force in order to prevent the jammer of the opponent team from passing and scoring.

8. Compulsorily, each jam will be on the track for up to two minutes.

9. Every game should decide certain actions and situation that will be considered as penalties. Some of them are mentioned below:

  • Tripping is done during the game.
  • A player blocks the opposing player out of the bounds.
  • A player blocks the opponent player above the shoulder.
  • A player blocks the opponent player with the arm below the elbow.
  • Charging from the rear.

10. After the match gets over the respective team with the highest score will be declared as the winner.

11. For instance, a match gets tied then an overtime jam will be occurred and this shall be continued till the team (single) score highest points than the other team.

Roller by Skates: Equipment

The most complicated part of the stakes is the trucks. The wheels are attached to the truck and the truck is being attached to the plate. There should not be any problem during the game with the trucks and a bit of wise advice will be such that the stakes should be checked twice before the game starts. It will be a serious problem if there is any problem with the stakes and in order to avoid that the skates should be visually inspected before every session.

If the player feels any kind of feel of unusual wear or damage, then it should be informed to a professional and important inspection should be conducted by them. A player is not supposed to stake until there is a positive reply by the professional inspector. This should be applicable for all the roller skate components but it is especially true for all the skate trucks.

There will be a bolt that helps to hold the wheels in a place and let the wheels turn slightly to the left or right while skating. For instance, if you are imagining of skate trucks in your car they will be ultimately a suspension onto which your car wheels are attached. Similarly, just like the same as the car, the firm suspension will be best for racing and whereas the soft suspension will be best for luxury and comfort.

The plates are ideally made of a nylon and fiberglass composite or maybe of lighter and more durable aluminum. If we talk about the skate only then the truck is the element that offers the widest range of options as concerns shocks, twists, and overall absorption. The professional skaters are given detailed information about the different skates that helps the buyer to get the desired feel and performances. All the players have to follow the roller derby rules for a better game to be played.
